Locations: Philadelphia

Philadelphia is most famous as the birthplace of American independence. The city's Historic and Waterfront District begins on 6th Street, and continues to Penn's Landing on the banks of the Delaware River. The site of Philadelphia's earliest settlements, the neighborhood is full of 18th century influence. Independence National Historic Park - America's most historic square mile - is home to the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and numerous historical buildings and sites, most of which are free to the public.

Next we visit Old City. In addition to the Betsy Ross House, Christ Church and Elfreth's Alley, this area is known for the most exciting collection of art galleries on the East coast.

The Washington Square District centers on one of the squares planned by William Penn, and connects the Historic and Commercial Districts. Walking through the quaint neighborhoods you will discover Jewelers Row and Antique Row, two of the city's specialty shopping areas, as well as the Walnut Street and Forrest theaters.

The Parkway/Museum District includes the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the interactive Franklin Institute, and the Rodin Museum. Beginning at the Ben Franklin Parkway is Fairmount Park, which encompasses more than 8,900 acres of winding creeks, rustic trails, green meadows and 100 miles of recreational trails, as well as the Philadelphia Zoo, with over 1700 exotic mammals, birds and reptiles.

Hungry after all that walking? Visit Restaurant Row for fine dining, go to Chinatown for Asian delicacies, South Street for a famous Philly cheese steak, or to South Philadelphia for homemade Italian cooking. Don't forget the Independence Seaport Museum.
